Research Experience at CSU Stan

Are you an undergrad at CSU Stanislaus? Are you intreseted in a research group?

I first got exposed to data science about two years ago and have been in a data mining research group at my university. During the Data mining research, I Studied patterns and correlations on Wine data from wine companies in the region using specific software (RStudio and Jupyter Notebook) and programming languages like Python and R. I have also Designed a poster and presented at CSU Stanislaus Research Poster Session, CSUPERB conference. Some technology that I have used include: Technologies: Spring Boot, MySQL, GCP, Android Studio, RStudio, Anaconda, Jupyter Notebook.

I currently have a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in chemistry and have done up to organic chemistry 2. I have also done physical chemistry research for 2 years. The chemistry instruments that I have experince with and know include: High Pressure Liquid Chromatography, UV vis spectrophotometer, Fluorometer, Cyclic Voltammetry. Under the chemistry resarch I Study the photophysical, electrochemical, Spectro electrochemical effects of solvents on corroles which can be used for future cancer research. Analyzed the fluorescence of corroles as well. I also presented my chemistry research at American Chemical Society, CSUPERB conferences about the research

Advice to Join a Research Group

  • Look at departments' webpages that list faculty research subjects.
    • Does the professor list undergraduates as research group members and/or encourage students to contact him or her?
  • Search the CSU Stan Undergraduate Research Opportunities by looking at porfessors wenbpages.
  • Attend seminars to learn about research in your department and to network.
  • You should also talk to other undergraduate and graduate students who are involved in research.
    • You can often find email addresses on the research group webpage or at the Campus Directory.
    • Ask them who they work or worked with and how they got involved.
    • It may help your chances of getting a position if you a graduate student or undergraduate who has been with the group for a long time is willing to give you a verbal or written reference.
  • Take advantage of any advising opportunities in your department.
    • Does the academic adviser know of professors who are looking for undergraduate researchers or who are very receptive to undergraduates approaching them?
